From the gangland areas of Glasgow and Edinburgh as a young Minister, to the present day, Norman’s life and work embodies a personal commitment to leadership and developing talent in others.
During his Army career, as Chaplain to The Parachute Regiment and The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), Norman served in the UK, Germany and Belize. Aged 32, he became the Headmaster of Loretto, Scotland's oldest independent boarding school. As a former BBC Governor and Chairman of BBC Children in Need, he continues to work with young people today, in his role as Honorary Colonel of The Black Watch Battalion of the Army Cadet Force, and as the Founder and President of Columba 1400; a successful Scottish and International charity, whose mission is to improve the live chances of young people.
Between 2013 - 2019, Norman Chaired WW100 Scotland and the Scottish Commemorations Panel and was the Special Representative for Scotland on the UK WWI Advisory Group. He is a non-Executive Director of his 5th generation family shipping company, J & J Denholm Limited.
Norman is a Chaplain to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Visiting Professor of Leadership in Education at the University of Edinburgh.
In The Queen’s Birthday Honours List of June 2014 Norman was honoured to be appointed a CBE for Public and Voluntary service, particularly to Young People.
